Why Education Is the Key to Lasting Change

Children born in poverty are 5× more likely to drop out of high school than their wealthier peers. And 82% are not reading at or above proficient levels by the fourth grade. These statistics are staggering — but they are not destiny.

Knowledge pushes us forward and creates opportunities for youth as they get older. That's why education is at the core of everything BeamUp does. We believe that with the right tools and access, every child can break free from the cycle of poverty.

We know that each community has unique educational needs. That's why we take a specialized approach towards offering targeted education — what we call Nano Education — to better equip those we serve.

One of our key partnerships is with Scrimba, which provides free coding subscriptions to kids that are interested in learning to code. Scrimba makes it simple for kids to learn and test their skills directly in the browser, without requiring expensive hardware investment.

Our programming is designed to encourage a launch pad for the youth we coach, which means the inclusion of dynamic goal setting and life coaching. We believe an empowered young adult means a more empowered world.

It is our biggest hope that the students we interact with feel equipped to make dreams of their own — like BeamUp — into reality. We provide entrepreneurial and financial training to set them up to take steps in their own directions.
